Open Question: musky smell in home? mold? help!?
Hello!
I have recently just rented a 2 bedroom home. The home was once just a small double wide trailer, which consisted of a kitchen, a bathroom and a small bedroom. A modular home consisting of a large living room and master bedroom upstairs was added on a few years ago. The house also sits on a large lake, in case that matters.
When I first looked at the house, I noticed a wierd “musky” smell..but I just assumed it was because it was freshly painted and had been unoccupied for such a long time.
Well I have been living there for a week, and this “musky” damp smell has not gone away. The smell is ONLY in the bathroom, kitchen and small bedroom(the part that was originally a trailer) I have tried candles, sprays, everything, but the musky smell won’t go away. Its gross and its driving me crazy! It smells like an old abandoned attic or something…I was told to just open all the windows and let the house “air out” for a couple days, but we have had torrential downpours the past week, and the rain wont be stopping untill next week, and I don’t know if I can handle it untill then.
Also my allergies have all of a sudden been “acting up”
I’m starting to worry that maybe there is mold in the house? Or if this is really just from the house being unoccupied for so long, and the ground being so wet because of the rain and being on a lake?
Any help/info would be greatly appreciated..I need to get this smell out of my house! How do I get it to go away!!?

Open Question: Would you board at someone’s personal barn?
If someone had a pretty well-appointed barn at their home with a couple of empty stalls, would you board there over a facility specialized in boarding? If there were no facilities specifically for boarding nearby?

Consider the barn to be somewhat similar to the following:
-Six 12′x14′ stalls with rubber mats
-Tack/Feed room with individual tack lockers for each horse
-Wash stall with mats, hot and cold water
-Lighted
-Attached 80′x120′ indoor arena
-Feed and/or supplements up to two times daily
-Daily turnout on 2-6 acres (size of pasure depends on pasture rotation) or in the indoor in bad weather
-Fenced grass area for an outdoor arena
-60′ round pen
-Near several local parks/lakes for trail riding, as well as county and 4-H show grounds

If you wouldn’t board your horse at a private facility (even a well-appointed one), why not?
If you would, how much would you pay for a situation similar to the above?
Forgot to add:
-Facility in in midwest United States
-Stalls have automatic waterers
-Pastures have shelters and access to water
-Fencing is smooth wire with electric tape on top

Open Question: Has anyone had a home birth?
I am 25 weeks pregnant with my first (girl). I am so excited but also very scared to give birth at the hospital. Two women I work with recently lost babies there and everyone else I have spoken to has had terrible experiences (kaiser). I watched a documentary that Ricki Lake did on home birth called The Business of Being Born and it sounded really good. I’m still scared about how bad it will hurt, but if women have been doing it natural for thousands of years, why can’t I? I just wanted to see what peoples experiences were. I would like to do a home water birth. The other thing is my HMO will pay for everything at kaiser, but I will have to pay if I do it at home.
