Resolved Question: Real estate question about houses?
There is a house a block away from me it’s on a corner a waterfront mansion. The first time i saw it i thought it was a building. But it’s actually a single family home. Ridiculous i thought. That should be a building. I’ve seen a lot of huge celebrity homes on MTV cribs, but this russian business man’s house TOWERS over those houses. The strange this is last year that house was around $5.9 million. This year it’s only $2.7 million. How is that possible? The guy also has a 1/4 acre of property. This is in Brooklyn NY.
If Brooklyn NY, and Manhattan and places like Beverly hills are so expensive, then why do houses that literally look like a building that’s built for around 100 families, have such a strong drop in it’s value?
BTW nobody in my neighborhood has anything near what this russian business guy’s house is. He liked the property, bought it and tore down a house then build himself this mansion.

Im contemplating buying my 1st property in 2009. I am in a serious dead-end between choosing a Condo in a densely populated, high night-life, downtown city, waterfront area ….or….leaning towards a house in a more rural area with more than a handful of acres. Assuming both of which would be the same price after pricing and taxes and insurance, which would be the better longer-term investment?
