Open Question: I think World of Warcraft has ruined my life.?
Yes, before all you haters of video games and people who believe video games aren’t an addiction, might as well stop reading now. This may seem long, but I’m looking for some other people to talk to, because I just feel lost. Sadly.

I have been playing WoW since 2005 and have put more hours into the game then i’d like to believe. I’m 19 almost 20 now, and was about 15 when I started. Since I have started, I have consistently played around 7-9 hours a day. No, I am not a fat nerd who believes Fantasy over real life. More so the reason I play WoW I think in my mind is to cover up ALL of the stress I have In real life. Since I have started this game, my parents got divorced around the same time I started playing. I have shut my family, friends, society out of my life. Also, I was informed that my dad that i’ve been raised by since birth, isn’t my real father, and my mom will not admit the truth, which caused me to go into shut down mode, which is unusual, because I am not a very emotional person, and it takes quite a bit for me to get emotional.

The addiction has become so bad that when I wake up in the morning, my first thought is what am I going to do on WoW today. When I am doing ANYTHING other then playing WoW, Hanging out with my friend ( that I pressured into playing WoW) I think about WoW anytime i’m not on WoW. Prior to finding this game, I was not a loser, nerd, etc. I was your typical teenager just hanging out with friends, going to school, getting into some trouble every now and then. In a way, I feel robbed of my youth, because while my friends were calling me to come hang out, go to a football game, go to the lake, I was making up excuses why I couldn’t just so I could play WoW. Minus the fact I dropped out of high school because of my lack of motivation, drive. Which was caused by this game. I havn’t had a job since my sophomore year, which I quit to play video games more. My dad bought me a car, which was then taken away because I did nothing with my life. I could go on with the shit I was dealing with.

It feels like a dream that I can’t escape because I’ve been living this way for so long. I have no desire to leave the house, I am dealing with major depression, anxiety, and I worry about every aspect of life that I havn’t got to experience like going to college, or getting into a field of work I enjoy, but these days, WoW is my life. There is nothing else, I wake up at 10, smoke a cigarette, eat, get on WoW for the rest of the day, stay up until 5 and then rinse and repeat. And incase you’re wondering, I’ve had a free ride with my living situation which allowed me more time to slack, and play the game.

But really, in the end, I feel as if I never would of came across this stupid game. My life would be different, and i’d actually for once be happy. I act happy around everyone, when really I’m not. Sadly, in the past 5 years, the happiest moments of my youth were something I’d accomplished in a stupid game that to this day I can’t quit. It’s like a love-hate relationship. When I’m mad at it, I think about the good times i had with it, when I’m happy with it, I think of what it’s doing to my life. I feel trapped in a virtual world, that in reality has gotten me no where in life. If anything has ruined my chance at doing anything.

On top of this addiction, I have been smoking cigarettes and pot everyday since I was 17 I’m now almost 20. Personally, I think now all 3 of these addictions have became a part of my daily routine, and I feel like this is the only way to live.

I just want to know that i’m not the only person that has had their life ruined by this game, IF YOU’VE had this same problem or know someone close to you that has also, Please send me an e-mail I just want some outside opinions and people to ask questions.

Sorry if it seems like I was just venting but I’d rather tell people over Yahoo, then tell my friends, family, doctors that my life has been ruined by a video game.
